MEET DOROTHY CRENSHAW – BLENDING PRECISION AND PASSION
(1) When did you know you were made for marketing?
Dorothy’s journey into marketing began somewhat by accident — and with a bit of courage. While working at a book publisher, she volunteered to write a press release without actually knowing what that meant. To her surprise, the well-drafted release caught the attention of her boss and editor. That single act of initiative sparked something in her — the realization that she had a knack for communications.
And it happened again…Managing a major trade show for a client, coordinating media coverage and securing interviews, Dorothy realized that her event success was a turning point. It confirmed that not only did she belong in marketing and communications, but she could also thrive there.
And the rest was history.
(2) What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Dorothy has been guided by two key pieces of advice — one from her sister and another from the legendary Dan Edelman.
Her sister, a psychotherapist, once told her:
“There’s no right or wrong decision. What matters is committing to the decision you make and working to make it right.”
This wisdom came when Dorothy was just starting on her journey to launch her own agency, teaching her that courage and commitment matter more than perfection in decision-making.
The second piece of advice came from Dan Edelman:
“Hire smart people and let them do their jobs.”
This principle shaped how Dorothy led teams — focusing on hiring great talent and giving them the space to excel. It’s a leadership philosophy she still holds today.
(3) What advice would you give your younger self?
If Dorothy could go back and talk to her younger self, her message would be simple:
Don’t worry so much.
She’d tell her younger self to relax, take a breath, and trust that things usually work out.
(4) The Fun Fact
Dorothy’s fun fact is her newest hobby. An avid coffee lover, she recently began roasting her own coffee beans at home. Her passion for all things coffee inspired her to take the plunge—and who knows, this fun fact may one day turn into her own small coffee business. True to form, Dorothy blended precision and passion to bring her idea to life.
