Women In Marketing Spotlight – Lynn Godfrey, A Seasoned Marketing Executive

By Daina Tilton
AMA New York Volunteer

During her early years in the media industry, Lynn Godfrey built a strong foundation in marketing becoming a valued marketing executive at household brands that we are all familiar with: MTV Networks, Nickelodeon, and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). Understanding the audience(s) of each network, she was able to develop successful marketing programs that engaged specific demographic groups to drive results.

Her role as Senior Marketing Director at PBS helped build a bridge to her future work in the public and non-profit sectors. In 2009, she landed herself in the C-Suite as the Chief Communications Officer of the New York Housing Authority. In 2013, Lynn became the Chief External Affairs Officer at the American Red Cross, and in late 2014, the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer of Girl Scouts of the USA.

Says Lynn, “When the opportunity to join Girl Scouts came up, to me it was an opportunity that I could not pass up. It was a culmination of all the career experiences and choices I’d made. It would help me feel I was directly making an impact on girls, a great opportunity, and a challenge for me to say, how do we take this legacy brand organization and position it to continue to make an impact going forward for the next 100 years?” At Girl Scouts of the USA, Lynn drew on her prior experience from the New York Housing Authority and the American Red Cross.

After five years leading an award-winning team, Lynn became the Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) – the largest nonprofit dedicated to creating a world without blood cancers through investments in groundbreaking research, patient care, and advocacy. She’s currently leading a multidisciplinary team across brand, digital, and content marketing, public relations, corporate and crisis communications, creative, and experiential marketing to drive the organization’s mission, revenue growth, and audience engagement. Lynn is truly passionate about the work of LLS and her role there as a marketing executive. Says Lynn, “It’s a real honor to work for an organization whose leadership equally values driving results with empathy.”
